To Hell and Back
A downloadable game for Windows
My first ever game jam submission! It's nowhere near a complete game and doesn't even really have a full gameplay loop yet, but I like the baseline that I have so far.
Things I Intended to Implement but Didn't Have the Time to:
- pixelated props: rocks, cacti, skulls, etc.
- hints only appearing on collision with a trigger for the tutorial level
- a lasso throwing animation instead of the layer mask just appearing
Things I Want to Implement but Knew I Wouldn't Have the Time to:
- Player stats like health, stamina, lasso charges etc.
- Death animation
- Multiple levels with complex layouts
- Cutscenes to explain the lore
- Combat??? (Maybe, but idk if that really fits a puzzle game like this)
The Intended Game Lore:
You are sheriff Wilson Goldberg, and you are just relaxing at a saloon with your brother Tommy when a demon appears through a portal and kidnaps him. You exist in a world where it's well known that demons exist, but it's unknown that they can travel to and from Hell. It's also unknown that some demons can exist in the overworld in disguise from everyday people, but only for a period of time. One of those hidden demons happens to be in the saloon with you and they approach you. They apologize for the other demon and explain that not all of them are like that, and that they are simply people who were bad during their life and could have changed their ways since death. She tells you that she can't give you the ability to simply travel to and from the demon world, but she can enchant your lasso so it can create a portal to a specific pocket of hell that you can travel through. She sends you on your way to go rescue your brother using the newly enchanted lasso and you have to scale difficult terrain and avoid dangerous obstacles to get there.
